Het is mogelijk om de verbinding met het netwerk te verbreken en zo te voorkomen dat de telefoon de werking van kwetsbare apparatuur, bijvoorbeeld in het vliegtuig of het ziekenhuis, stoort. Het blijft mogelijk om een gedeelte van de telefoonfuncties te gebruiken als je de 'Flight-modus' hebt ingeschakeld, maar je kunt bijvoorbeeld geen berichten versturen of gesprekken voeren.
